Manchester Salford Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder

About Us

The Manchester Salford Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder (MSP) was the first in the country to secure Housing Market Renewal funding from the Government. In October 2003, the Government approved £125million for the first phase (2003-06) of a long-term programme to create fundamental and transformational changes.

In June 2006 an award of £106million was made for the second phase of the programme (2006-08), with a further £140million indicative funding award announced in February 2008 for the third phase ( 2008-11).

MSP's long term vision is to recreate neighbourhoods of choice in areas surrounding the Manchester Regional Centre.

Neighbourhoods of choice offer a greater range of housing options for existing residents and are attractive to new and former residents. They are characterised by increased levels of home ownership and higher property values, and benefit from quality public services, including schools, nurseries, health centres and transport, attractive and sustainable environments, good neighbourhood management with low crime and antisocial behaviour, and a choice of cultural and leisure opportunities.

MSP works with a range of stakeholders - including Urban Regeneration Companies, regional government and funding agencies, neighbourhood and community groups and developer partners - to ensure that HMR funding is aligned with other marketing restructuring and regeneration activities.
